How this calculator works
- Energy charge = units x average rate per unit.
- Electricity duty = energy charge x duty percentage.
- Estimated bill = energy charge + fixed charge + duty.
Finding your average rate
Most states charge by slabs, with higher rates for later units. This calculator uses one average rate to keep things simple. To find yours, take the energy charge from your last bill and divide it by the units on that bill. Your average rate will rise if you use more units next month, because more of them fall into higher slabs.
Example
Using 250 units at an average of Rs 7 gives an energy charge of Rs 1,750. Add a fixed charge of Rs 100 and duty of 5% (Rs 87.50), and the estimated bill is Rs 1,937.50.
What this leaves out
Your actual bill may include a fuel adjustment charge, meter rent, arrears, or a state subsidy. Read how to read your electricity bill for what each line means.
